Ribbon Desk
Concept: Inspired by the flexibility of wood veneers used on another project, the Client requested a built-in furniture unit that was completely interconnected. In that request, the concept of a “ribbon” was found. Programmatic requirements included a desk, a vinyl record turntable stand, shelves for vinyl records, art/book shelving, and a seating area inside the shipping “container niche”. Ribbon Desk is a bespoke piece of furniture that winds and flows through the space, disappearing and re-appearing, that is both functional and expressive of the Client’s approach to business.
Technical: Ribbon Desk is fabricated from laminated wood veneers with cherry wood as the finish. Wall mounts are concealed dowels and clear plexiglass wall mount brackets were fabricated to support the bench seating area. The fabrication process required a significant amount of R and D. The piece was formed sectionally in the shop and field spliced for the final installation.
